Kitesurfing Mallorca — Best Spots & Wind Guide 2026
Why Mallorca, Spain Is Worth the Trip
Mallorca isn't just a holiday destination--it's one of Europe's most reliable kitesurfing grounds. The Balearic island sits in a sweet spot where Mediterranean thermals mix with Atlantic swells, giving you consistent side-shore or off-shore wind nearly year-round. Whether you're chasing flat-water freestyle sessions or wave riding in autumn swells, Mallorca delivers both. The island's east and north coasts face the dominant Tramontana and Mistral winds, creating world-class conditions that rival dedicated kite destinations.
What makes Mallorca special isn't just the wind--it's the variety. Within 30 minutes you can switch from a glassy bay to a wave-loaded reef break. Shallow lagoons are perfect for learning, whilst reef passes and beach breaks suit riders looking for more challenge. Add warm water (no thick winter wetsuit needed), laid-back beach towns, and affordable accommodation, and you've got a destination that suits solo travellers, families, and serious riders alike. We've sent hundreds of customers to Mallorca and they've all come back asking when they can go again.
Best Spots & Getting There
- Can Pastilla Bay -- Sheltered, shallow lagoon near the airport; ideal for beginners and light-wind days. Easy 10-minute taxi from Palma airport. Best in morning thermals (May-September).
- Pollença Bay (northeast coast) -- Iconic kitesurfing mallorca best spot for consistent Tramontana wind. Wide, forgiving bay with sandy bottom; suits all levels. Town has shops, food, and windsurfing schools. 1 hour from Palma.
- Alcúdia Bay -- Twin beach setup (Pollença + Alcúdia bays) offering protected waters and stronger wind than the south. Side-shore in both directions means you can kite almost any day. Packed with facilities.
- Soller Bay (northwest) -- Less crowded, stronger winter swells, rocky points ideal for wave riders. Tramontana dominates; exposed but rewarding. 45 mins from Palma via mountain pass.
- Colònia de Sant Jordi (south) -- Shallow, warm water and flattest conditions in summer. Morning thermal winds; best April-June. Peaceful village vibe; only 1 hour from airport.

Light Summer Setup (May-August)
14-17m kite, freeride or wave board (120-140L), 3/2mm spring suit or rash guard. Thermal winds are lighter but more forgiving for learning. Bring a second kite size (12m) for variable days. No thick winter gear needed.
Year-Round Explorer Setup
9-17m kite quiver (cover light thermals to strong Tramontana). Freestyle board (135-150L) for flat water, twin-tip or small wave board (120-135L) for swell. 3/2mm spring suit (Apr-Oct), 4/3mm winter suit (Nov-Feb). Consider a second bar for security in strong wind.
For kitesurfing Mallorca best spots, we recommend bringing a mid-range freeride kite that handles both light thermals and stronger mistral days. The Duotone Evo or Cabrinha Drifter work year-round.
The Evo is built for Mallorca's mixed conditions--light morning thermals to afternoon Tramontana. Forgiving in light wind, stable in gusts, excellent relaunch. Perfect one-kite quiver for a week trip.
A true all-rounder for beach breaks and bay work. Drifter's predictable handling suits intermediate riders learning wave riding in Soller or Pollença Bay. Lightweight and responsive in thermal conditions.
Rent or Buy? Advice from Surf Store
If you're visiting for a week and already own a kite, buy a travel board locally or rent a quiver. Shipping a full kite setup costs €50-100 and adds hassle at airport security. Mallorca has excellent rental shops in Pollença (Aloha Kite Club) and near Can Pastilla; expect €25-45 per day for kite + board, or €150-200 for a 5-day rental package. Water's warm enough that renting a spring suit makes sense if you're only staying April-September.
If you're a regular or planning to stay 3+ weeks, buy a quiver here and ship it home. We stock the full Duotone and Cabrinha range at competitive European prices. Two kites (14m and 10m) plus a board will cost less than 10 days of rentals, and you'll own kit dialled for Mallorca's wind range. Plus, we offer free EU shipping from €99--just order before you leave.
